Staterooms

How to pick a stateroom

  • Starboard verandah for Alaskan cruise

  • Do not stay on deck below pool/buffet

    • Hear footsteps and chairs being dragged

  • Starboard for Castaway Cay View

  • Back of ship might feel engine rumbling

  • Look at family needs

    • Close to elevators, close to childcare, etc.

  • Price versus location versus category level

  • Seasickness look towards rooms mid ship and lower decks

  • Porthole magic in certain rooms inside rooms

    • These do typically sell out quickly

  • Navigator Verandahs

    • More enclosed verandah with smaller or minimal view, it feels more intimate,

    • Cheaper price

    • Not all ships have these

explore the kids club and areas

Clubs for children ages 3 and up are INCLUDED with the cost of your cruise

Safety is a top concern

  • No adults are allowed in the club except during open house hours

  • Each child has a magic band that they wear during the entire cruise. There is a lock on these so they do not come off

  • The band is scanned and has a picture of your child and the adults that have permission to pick them up or drop them off.

  • You will set up a secret word that will be used to pick up your kids. This is a word that only you and the adults responsible for your kids should know.

  • Each band has GPS on the ship so when picking up the kids, they will know exactly where the kid is. This could also be helpful if for any reason you get separated while on the cruise ship.

  • When entering the clubs each kid must stop at the handwashing station which lasts for 12 seconds and does all the dirty work.

restaurant and all things food

  • Children who are not must wear swim diaper in the wet play areas and splash zones

  • Swim googles that only fit over eyes can be used everywhere

  • Swim masks are only allowed in the pools

onboard activities

Beverage Tasting Seminars

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

  • If you cancel an onboard activity what happens?

  • If you need to change your onboard activity plans, cancellations must be made at least 24 hours prior to the experience start time. Once an activity is canceled, there is no specific time frame at which the activity reenters the system for booking. Computer systems are a little like Donald Duck, great pals but also a little unpredictable!

  • Now, if you canceled an activity by accident and would like to rebook it, I have a couple of ideas:

    • On the Disney Cruise Line website, periodically check for the activity under the “Already Booked” tab, select “Book / Manage Cruise Activities” and perhaps you will find the activity available for booking.

    • If not, once onboard you can use the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app to peruse and book activities or stop by the Guest Services Desk. Often times fellow cruisers have a last-minute change in plans, and you will find just the activity you were looking for!

  • On my last cruise, we had hoped to book one of the beverage tastings onboard the ship but it was not available. A Crew Member encouraged us to try a different tasting during our day at Castaway Cay at Heads Up Bar instead, and I'm glad we did! We had such a great time soaking up the sunshine and a few rum cocktails.

entertainment

  • On my most recent voyage, the shows were performed at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

  • Guests that have the main dinner seating (usually around 5:45 p.m.) will first enjoy dinner and then watch the later show in the evening. Guests enjoying the second dinner seating (around 8:00 p.m.) will attend the earlier show and then head to dinner.

  • Most shows running 45 minutes to 1 hour in length

  • I recommend that you arrive about 15- 20 minutes before showtime to get a great seat up close. The performers sometimes travel through the aisles and there is a lot to see when you are front and center.

  • Typically have a visiting Broadway Professional on each sailing

deck plans

  • Elevators

    • The Wish does not have a central elevator bank that other ships have due to studies showing fewer people use them

    • Now there are only two elevator banks, forward and aft. But they do have more elevators than they did before

    • Only certain elevators go up to the top floors. If you're trying to get to floor 13 to go to Palo and are currently on floor 6 n the aft elevator bank, only the farthest toward the wall elevators will take you to floor 13. The others will stop at 11 and 12. So when an up elevator opens, check the buttons inside to see if there is a 13 button

  • Stairs

    • Forward stairs are GREEN

    • AFT stairs are BLUE

Ship Notes and experiences or tips

Top 5 Disney Cruise Line Wish changes that I love

  • More room on pool decks to watch shows/fireworks because of the extra staircases and pool deck areas not being 1 level

  • Arendelle dining experience show

    • Music and singing are outstanding

  • Mickey & friends festival of foods (deck 11)

    • The food selections is vast and all delicious

  • Two different pirate shows

  • Fireworks shot from both sides of the boat

  • Bathroom improvements

    • Shower seems bigger

    • Shower has a glass door

  • Marceline Market

    • Organized in pods therefore no long lines to wait in

My Quick Review of the Disney Cruise Line Wish

  • Sea days are great to learn and explore more about the ship

  • Cove Café all the way in the back of the ship and in the adult only area

    • Currently no free snacks like other ships

  • Adult area pools and hot tubes are smaller and seem an after thought

  • No adult district but the lounges are all over the ship/decks

  • Hook’s Barbery

    • Top notch drinks and amazing services

  • Lack drawer space in staterooms

  • Hard to watch tv when siting on the couch

  • To get to adult dining, need to be in the back 4 elevators to get to the top, otherwise you need to get out and hit the up button

  • Takes time to warm up to the ship and learn the differences

    • Take the time to find new hidden gems

How Does the Wish differ from the Dream/Fantasy/Wonder/Magic

  • Storage space and drawers have been decreased

  • Tv does not rotate

  • Bathroom tub/shower is glass instead of plastic curtain

  • Quick service food on pool decks (Mickey’s Friends)

    • Huge improvement compared to other ships

  • Palo is a steakhouse and not just an Italian restaurant

    • I believe the plan is for the entire fleet to become steakhouse also

  • Uncharted adventure is a different onboard game compared to Midship Detective

  • Disney Cruise Line Wish Ship Changes

  • Redistribution of bars, lounges, and a new entertainment venue to increase their visibility and accessibility

  • Relation of “it’s a small world” nursery and Oceaneer’s club to deck 2 below main hall

  • Reposition and expansion of the spa and fitness facilities to deck 5

  • Reimagined sports court that is indoors

  • More pools, more water amusement, and better views on and from the upper decks

  • Reducing number of elevator banks and stair halls from three to two

    • But there are more elevator bays and provide better flow throughout the ship

    • Only certain elevators go to the top floor FYI

  • First DCL ship building cabins in an assembly line with 21 steps (everything pre-tested, pre-cut and pre-bent)

  • Atrium/Grand Hall first one with a balcony

  • Once upon a wish show when we walk onto ship

  • Greater than 4000 pieces of art

  • Themed rooms

    • Concierge Tangled

    • Staterooms

      • Fairytale castle = Cinderella, Frozen

      • Forrest & animals = Princess & the Frog, Sleeping Beauty

      • Spirit of the sea = Little Mermaid, Moana

  • Stateroom lamp shade has a hidden mickey

    • The backing of the lampshade has a cutout that has filigree from the sheets with mickey mouse’s head

    • When the lamp is off, it’s just a lamp

    • Turn the light on and see it
